The Japanese often say, "Food is meant to be eaten with the mouth and eyes." Likewise, the best hot springs provide multisensory experiences. The hot spring baths at the Itsuura Kanko Hotel offer relaxation and deep pleasure for your eyes, ears, nose, skin, and heart. Since the baths are
close to the sea, the sounds of waves, wind, and birds roll over you as
you bathe. The feeling is akin to an auditory massage that melts stress
away.
Outdoor bath at the Itsuura Kanko Hotel's Bekkan Building |
The Itsuura Kanko Hotel stands on the edge of a cliff above the Izura Coastline of Kita-Ibaraki. Both sea and sky are visible from the baths. Sky and ocean colors merge, dance, and diffuse in front of you while you are stretching in a hot bath.

You'll discover yourself breathing slowly and deeply; the daily hassles of life fade into the distance. Breezes from the ocean, carrying scents of the salty sea, linger around the bath before dissipating into the atmosphere.

Under the soothing influence of the natural onsen water, your skin feels smoother and more sensitive.
High-quality food, fine service, and excellent baths enrich the hearts of visitors. I stayed just one night and left wishing that I could have a more extended visit. The Itsuura Kanko Hotel is situated in Kita-Ibaraki, an area where foreign travelers are relatively scarce. My friends and I were the only Westerners enjoying the facilities that night. If you want to experience luxurious surroundings in a hotel that merges Japanese traditions with modern facilities, I recommend this hotel. If you happen to be in Kyushu, I recommend the baths and lunch deal at this hotel in Beppu. |
These baths were fantastic.
ReplyDeleteKita-Ibaraki seems a wonderful place!
ReplyDeleteIt is. Thank you for commenting.
DeleteYes. It is a wonderful place that few foreign tourists know about. I highly recommend visiting.
ReplyDeleteTiny typo: *where foreign travelers are scarce. Thank you for another review of a hidden gem of an onsen.
ReplyDeleteYou have my sincere gratitude for pointing out my typo. When I read my writing, I tend to read what I am thinking, which is sometimes different from what I had written.
DeleteWhat can I do in the environs?
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot to enjoy in the area. I loved walking along the coast to a unique tea house. There are also many bicycle routes nearby, but I did not have time to take advantage of them. Kitaibaraki also hosts spectacular art museums that are the result of one of Japan's greatest art scholars choosing the area to live and work.
